The call is out for teenagers who are making a difference in our community. Mayor Lionel Rivera has announced the start of the nomination phase for the 2010-2011 class of Mayor’s 100 Teens.
Since 1998, Mayor's 100 Teens has recognized teenagers who demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism, leadership, and academic success and who have overcome adversity or achieved a significant accomplishment. The program was developed to commend local teens for successes that don't typically receive recognition.
"Mayor's 100 Teens not only gives these teens the recognition they deserve, but it gives them opportunities to get involved in community service projects and to meet other successful teens in the Pikes Peak Region," said Mayor Rivera.
The Mayor's 100 Teens are selected by a panel of community judges in April and are recognized in a public celebration in September. Throughout the year, teens are invited to attend special events with the mayor, serve on various committees and participate in community service activities. Students in the 9th, 10th or 11th grade may be nominated for The Mayor's 100 Teens. The deadline for nominations is March 26, 2010.
