Donations Keep Cultural Services Programs Going In 2010.
Thanks to the hard work of friends groups and the generosity of concerned citizens. Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site and the North Cheyenne Cañon visitors' centers -Starsmore Discovery Center and Helen Hunt Falls Visitor Center - will remain open in 2010.
These facilities and associated programs were originally only funded for the first quarter of 2010 while outside funding options were explored. With the current level of donations raised by the Friends of Cheyenne Cañon and the Rock Ledge Ranch Living History Association plus expected revenue from ongoing fundraising, special events and participation fees, all three of these facilities are scheduled to be open through the end of the year.
"We are extremely grateful for the generosity and the hard work of all of our friends groups," says Cultural Services Manager Matt Mayberry. "Without their fundraising efforts, we could not continue to fulfill our mission of preserving and interpreting the cultural and natural history of the Pikes Peak Region."
Additionally, all funding for Cultural Services’ interpretive and safety patrol programs at the Garden of the Gods is provided by the Friends of Garden of the Gods and Garden of the Gods Foundation.
City Council provided partial funding for the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum for 2010, but approximately $300,000 in private donations from the Friends of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum and the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum Foundation is required to keep the museum open to the public for the year.
Fundraising will continue throughout 2010 to meet this year's budget as well as raise money to keep Cultural Services facilities open in 2011. To donate or for more information, contact:
